About J&M Welding
J&M Welding, Inc. is a structural steel and miscellaneous metals subcontractor in Paso Robles, California, serving general contractors across San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Monterey counties since 2012.

Mitch Madrid founded J&M Welding in 2012 with a straightforward idea: build a shop that handles steel the right way — from reading the drawings to setting the finished piece, all in-house. More than a decade later, that’s what J&M is. We fabricate structural steel and architectural metalwork, and we self-perform the installation with our own cranes and field crews.
What that means for a general contractor is simple: you’re not hiring a one-man welder. You’re working with a company that runs on process — a project manager, an estimator, shop crews, and field crews — built to take on real commercial scope and hold a schedule. Mitch is a member of the American Welding Society, has judged welding competitions for SkillsUSA, and has taught welding at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cuesta College. J&M welds to AWS D1.1 and D1.8, verified by an independent Certified Welding Inspector, and holds CSLB License #1046894 and DIR Registration #1000391312.
We work across commercial construction, public works, wineries and restaurants, and custom homes as a builder’s sub — and we keep a heavy-equipment repair line for the accounts that depend on it. When the drawings don’t match the field, or the schedule’s tight, that’s when a shop that fabricates and installs earns its keep.
